Message Regarding Corona Virus from Pastor Shaffer
Dear Church Family,
Due to the recent concern over the Corona Virus that has swept our world, and nation, we desire to keep you up-to-date and aware of both the situation and our response plan. As a church and school, we are monitoring the situation closely and giving great care to respond in an appropriate manner.
As we face this situation which has garnered attention from the highest leaders in the world, it only makes sense to find out what God says about this situation. Several passages of scripture come to mind as I consider this global pandemic.
…see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
II Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
The “pestilences” in Matthew 24, speaks of an epidemic disease with a high death rate. Corona Virus probably won’t be the last disease to spread panic and fear throughout the world. However, we are told not to be “troubled.” Literally, meaning to not be filled with apprehension or fear, because as Paul told Timothy, we have been given a “sound mind.” We do not need to be filled with panic or fear, we do need to use the wisdom which is rooted in the “sound mind” God has given us.
As a church we are taking certain precautions, and we are working to make sure we are using sound minded wisdom to combat the spread of disease. Much of this begins on a day-to-day basis with the teachers in our school.
Following is the current response plan for Eagle Heights Baptist Church.
When our dependence is on the Lord, and we trust that He is truly in perfect control, we can live with confidence in the midst of a panic-stricken world. Use the wisdom God has entrusted to you, but also remember to “be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” (Philippians 4:6)
