A portion of our school's Alma Mater states, "In
Academics, Sports, and Arts we strive for excellence, but far above
the aim of these, Christ has preeminence." This is the
thrust of our teaching at EHCS. Though we "seek to excel"
as Christ commands all Christians to do, we realize that "whether
therefore ye eat or drink, do all to the glory of God." In our
classroom instruction, our teachers are constantly seeking to encourage
excellence in our students so that God can receive glory. Our teachers
not only push our students to grow, but are students themselves.
They regularly attend workshops and classes to keep their teaching
tools sharp.
The Bible is our main "textbook" though
we do not treat it as a mere textbook, but instead view it as the manual
for life. (All grades enjoy a weekly chapel service.) EHCS also
offers a wide range of courses. In elementary all of the basic subjects
are taught, including phonics, Heritage, Math, Spelling,
etc. (Each 1st-6th grade classroom also has computers availble for
the students to use as an incentive and supplement to classroom
instruction, with the 5th and 6th grades receiving basic typing instruction.)
In junior high, our students still have Bible as
their first and most important subject, and also receive further
instruction and reinforcement in all the core subjects. These 7th
and 8th graders also have computers available in each of their classrooms
to use for doing homework and other assignments. Typing instruction
is continued through classes offered in our computer lab.
Daily
instruction in the Word moves our students toward our goal of graduating
mature Christians equipped for future flight. Our high school students
have many electives to choose from, including Spanish, Computer
Applications, Publications, Physics, Chemistry, and Advanced Math. All 9th graders take a keyboarding class in which they
perfect their typing skills and prepare to pass the core level of
the Microsoft® Word 2000 MOUS exam. The Computer Applications
class also offers students the opportunity to prepare for the core or expert levels
of the Word 2000, Excel 2000, and Access 2000 MOUS exams. | |
